Becoming Like Children

May 4, 2025    Jon Paul Dennison

Jesus responds to His disciples' question about who the greatest is in the kingdom by placing a small boy in front of them who wouldn't have yet been seeking status, rank, titles, or position. The disciples, who had begun to posture for those things would have to turn and become like this child if they wanted to enter into the kingdom, much less be great in it.

Jesus teaches them how serious it is to not cause one of these "little ones" to stumble, the same phrase that elsewhere speaks of all believers, because we are all called to become like children. More than that, it would be worth removing any stumbling blocks from in front of ourselves as well. Every believer, all the way down to the very least, is so valuable to God, He set apart angels to be ministering spirits, and more than that, sent His own Son down to save that which was lost.
