Shining Like the Sun

Mar 16, 2025    Jon Paul Dennison

Jesus gives Peter, James, and John a window into the invisible kingdom when He manifests in glory on the Mount of Transfiguration. Moses appears, but it's not his face shining this time. Elijah appears, but it's not him receiving glory and honor from the Father. Jesus is being lifted up and glorified in a glimpse of His fulfilling of the law and prophets in the New Covenant that would soon be enacted.

Peter, unaware of the temporary nature of this moment, may have believed this to be the day of the Lord and the beatific vision. He wanted to set up booths, perhaps as an ushering in of the eschatological realities of Zechariah. Yet this moment was a mere glimpse into the kingdom that would be to come; a kingdom in which they too would shine forth as the sun, as Jesus promised.
