Faith that Moves Mountains into the Sea

Mar 23, 2025    Jon Paul Dennison

Though Jesus' disciples had been given authority and power over demons, they were unable to cast one out of a boy who had been possessed from his infancy. After Jesus casts it out, He tells His disciples that if they had the living faith the size of a mere mustard seed, nothing would be impossible for them, even moving mountains.

Mountains were the ultimate visible representation of that which could not be humanly moved, yet God moves them all the time. The human measure of faith is not the strength behind the impossible; it is the omnipotence of God. And as Jesus would show, it wasn't an accident that a mountain was moved when He died on the cross, nor that John saw mountains cast into the sea in his revelation. The apostles would later see that they needed those mountains moved for the gospel to spread throughout the earth.
