He Rested On the Seventh Day

Aug 2, 2026    Jon Paul Dennison

On the seventh day of creation, God's creation was complete and all was as it should have been. Since God was finished with His work, He blessed the day and set it apart for His people to remember the day when the world was in a state of rest. Remembering the Sabbath would not only remind Israel of a time when all was good and complete, but it would help them look ahead to a time when the world would be at rest again.

So when Jesus came and healed on the Sabbath, He was not only doing something lawful, but taking things back to their state before sin and unrest entered the world. The rest God commanded His people to observe on the Sabbaths reminded them there was a time before men were enslaved, indebted, or held captive. And ultimately, in Christ alone, we enter into this eternal rest.
