On the Water, On the Rock

Jan 19, 2025    Jon Paul Dennison

Peter walked on the water because he was standing on the rock. As he stepped on to the Sea of Galilee, he had done what the other disciples hadn't: taken courage. But faith is not just a single step, and it wasn't until he was away from the boat that he began to fear the storm. He had already overcome the impossible and walked on the water, yet it was a mere storm that caused him to fear and doubt.

Faith isn't just a moment, and the storm doesn't stop when we take the first step. Yet with every step we walk towards Jesus, we realize that our security was never in the boat. And when we are too far out to turn around and our faith begins to fail, we can do what Peter did: cry out to Jesus. And He will be faithful to take our hand and keep us from sinking.
